Vintage Hair

Back in the days, the hairstyles were so intricate and definitely took a lot of time. Especially since they didn’t have the same hair tools we do now!

In school, we have been learning a lot about the different hairstyles throughout the decades and I’d have to say that my favorite would be the defined, sleek fingerwaves of the 1920’s. I’ve always had trouble doing the fingerwaves, but this time, while we were working on it in class I managed to create such beautiful fingerwaves!

The amount of product and the type of product is very crucial when doing fingerwaves! I would practice fingerwaves day and night but would never get it right so I eventually just gave up. When we had to do the fingerwaves in class this week I didn’t think I would do so well but I impressed myself.

First of all, make sure you have a deep side part because all fingerwaves have a deep side part. You then want to completely wet the hair down. After that, you will need to apply lots of styling gel. If the hair isn’t sticking down or if you’re having trouble creating that “C” shape then you need to add more gel. Once you complete the fingerwave, you can pin curl the rest of the hair if you have long/medium hair length or if you have short hair, just finish off the style with one final piece of “S” shape down the neck.

FIngerwave tutorial     (This is for a cosmetology exam but she describes the fingerwave process step by step and in detail. Also, notice how much product she has on her dollhead and how easy it is to move the hair!)

Have you seen the movie Water for Elephants starring Reese Witherspoon? Well, I attempted to do that hairstyle and I loved it! If you attempted the fingerwave with the pincurls at the bottom, then you can totally do this look as well! All you have to do is get a teasing comb with picks on the end and raise the hair to give it come volume in the front, and then tease out all the pin curls to give it a sexy fluffy look!

Popular Summer Hair Do’s

Are you just bored of having the same old hairstyle? Switch it up with these popular summer styles!

One of the go to hairstyles are braids. Having it all over on one side, having it wrap around your head, or even having a braid in the front of your hair line. Any type of braid, anywhere will look cute, trendy. and fashionable. When you have a braid in your hair, don’t add any extra accessories — you want the braid to stand out on its own. You don’t want to take away its beauty and elegance. A braid is beautiful because of its simplicity.

Waves For Days

Another look you will see out there a lot is naturally effortless beach waves. All of the Hollywood Stars are wearing their hair in beachy waves . I love this look because it is really simple and easy to do! The more randomly placed and tousled the waves are, the better!

I use my HerStyler wand to get sexy beachy hair. I bought it on Groupon for $30. Always use a thermal protectant on your hair when you’re adding heat to your hair. I use Paul Mitchell’s Hott off the Press ($20.95). I then curl my hair with the wand and after I’m done I pull down on the curl to make it loose and not so springy. Then I add a soft hold hairspray that I can run my fingers through without having it flake. The best soft hold hairspray out there is the Sebastian Shaper Plus Hairspray ($16.95).

Tie that Pony Low

Low ponytails with a little bit of poof in the crown is another go to hairstyle this summer. It looks polished and sophisticated. You can make it as simple as you want or go all out and glam it up for a night out.

To get nice volume on the crown grab hair from ear to ear and start teasing until you reach the front part of your hair. You want to tease your hair from mid shaft to root. I use my Chi Turbo CB13 ($6.00) to tease the hair. I love this teasing brush. The bristles are so strong that they get the hair to form that cushion you need to create volume. As you tease, add hairspray so you don’t lose the volume that you just created. Smooth over the top of the hair with your teasing brush very lightly so you don’t disturb the volume you created. Then just tie it in a low pony and hairspray any flyaways.

Old Hollywood Curls

This look is very classy and easy to do. That old Hollywood glam is back! Many people are doing these cute vintage hairstyles that were very popular in the 30’s. You see many celebs rocking this hairstyle on the red carpet and so can you because it is really simple to achieve this look!

First, you need to create a deep side part. Then start curling your hair towards your face in one inch vertical sections with a curling wand or curling iorn. You do this all throughout your head and in the end you will have big curls. You then spray some soft holding hairspray and then comb it out. Touch up your curls where it’s needed and you will have a glamorous vintage look.

Dress it up!

You can never go wrong with adding a little something to your hairdo. You can add a floral hippie band over your head if you have a half do or even if you have your hair in curls and you want to make your style stand out. Another accessory that is hot this summer is jeweled head bands. This is a perfect way to add a bit of glamour  to your hairdo.

The Perfect Summer Makeup

Summer is back again and you want to stay in style. What makeup trends are a MUST?  Follow these easy 5 steps and you will look your best all summer!

Bye Bye Oily Skin!

We tend to get oily around the summer time because of the heat so our bodies are producing more oils on the surface of our skin. I take care of this by using Bosica Green Tea Blotting Linens. They are transparent little papers that soak up all the oil from your face leaving it free of any oil. It has nice packaging and easy to carry around when your on the go. I purchase mine from Sephora and it is only $10!

I love these blotting linens. Sometimes, before your take a picture, it comes in handy to take off all that excess shine so you don’t look too shiny and sweaty on a photo. Also, you don’t have to carry around your powder to touch up your makeup!

Orange Lipstick is IN!

Everyone is wearing it, and everyone looks good in it! Why? Because there are so many shades of orange that at least one of those shades will suit you. My shade is more of a coral orange and it’s from Makeup Forever #39 Satin Orange Coral ($20). It’s not too intense and not too soft. It makes my lips pop just enough to complete my look.  What is great about orange lipsticks is that you can wear it with an all natural look or with an all glam look.

Depending on your skin shade or type of makeup you have on (dramatic or natural), you can pull off any shade of orange. It looks so trendy and fashionable!

Less is More!

This summer, you don’t have to worry about not having every little product on your face. If you don’t need it then don’t apply it. This summer it’s all about being natural and having a bare face. Natural beauty is “in” everyone! You can touch up where foundation is needed or concealer or even a tinted moisturizer will do, maybe add a bit of mascara on your lashes to make them noticeable ( no spidery lashes though), touch up your brows where it’s needed, and you can call it a day. It will save you time and you will see how you can enhance your flaws without really hiding it!

On the left side I don’t have any makeup on. On the right side I added foundation on areas that were red like around my nose, chin, and certain areas of my cheeks. I used Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow pencil to fill in certain areas of my brows and added my favorite mascara (Benefit They’re Real Mascara –$23) on my top and bottom lashes. I love this mascara, IT DOES NOT CLUMP and gives you nice smooth long eyelashes.

Golden Goddess

Golden bronzers are definitely a must have for this summer! Yes! I have always been a fan of that golden glow since I saw that Dior perfume ad with Charlize Theron. That just screams summer beachy perfection!  If you want to get a more dewy finish but you don’t have a cream bronzer, you can mix in your favorite lotion to your bronzing powder and apply it around your face where its needed. A few top bronzers are Sonia Kashuk cream bronzer ($10) , Benefit Hoola Bronzer ($28) , Physicians Formula Bronze Booster ($15), Physicians Formula Sunset Strip Bronzer ($13), and Georgio Armani Bronzed All Over Palette ($88)

I used the Bronze Booster first to add a little bit of warmth to my cheekbones then I went in with my sunset palette and added it right above my cheekbones so when the light hits my cheeks, it reflects back and gives off a dewy look.

Colored Eye Shadows and Liners

Color is in this summer. Everyone is color blocking so if you’re lacking color in your wardrobe — it’s ok because you can add that with your liners! This summer it is all about the eyes. Everyone is wearing intense colors like red, purple, blue, and teil and they all look fabulous! Many are scared because they aren’t use to such intense colors but after a few wears you will be addicted! Buying a palette that has a variety of colors is great because you can pick and choose what shades work best for your skin tone.

I used Maybelline color tattoo in edgy emerald on my eye and I love this color because it is sooo pretty and fun! You can use these color tattoos as an eye shadow base to make your eye shadow colors more intense and long lasting or you can do what I did and just wear it on its own!

I love using Urban Decays liquid liners. They come in a variety of colors and they’re waterproof and have very intense colors that actually pop out. So you don’t have to add any shadow or base, just add the liner and you’re good to go!

Trendy Beauty Hacks!

Everyone wants to look good and feel good and sometimes we don’t have the time to do it or even the right products. Today I will be sharing with you a few things that can help you get ready fast and still look your best!

BEAUTY HACK #1: Want to have long lasting lipstick? Instead of applying a lipstick apply a lip liner. Because your lipstick has more of a creamier base, it can fade away a lot quicker. A lip liner has a more waxier base so it will stay in place longer than your lipstick would. All you have to do now is either apply your fav lip gloss over it and you’ve got long lasting lip color throughout the day or night!

I used a Mac lip liner on my lips. I love Mac lip liners because they are long lasting and smudge proof!

BEAUTY HACK #2: Want to add blush but you don’t have any that is the right shade for your makeup? Simply use your pinkest eye shadow and it will work just as good!

Apply the color on the apples of your cheeks. I chose to apply a very light pink eye shadow on my cheeks because I wanted to keep it natural and youthful.

BEAUTY HACK #3: Do you feel like your lip colors are too boring and you don’t want to waste money on a fun colored lipstick that you will only wear once? You can definitely create your own lipstick! Choose a color of eye shadow you would want to wear on your lips and scrape some on a clean surface, mix it with Vaseline or your fav chap stick (EOS works great) and you will have your lipstick. You can create a variety of colors with this method.

I love using EOS when I want to create a fun lip color because it is so creamy and also has SPF in it to protect my lips.

BEAUTY HACK #4: Do you feel like you never have time to do your hair to get volume?? When you wake up, roll the crown of your hair into rollers, spray it with some hair spray and do your regular morning routine. By the time you finish and are ready to head out the door simply take out the rollers and you will have lasting volume throughout the day! If you don’t have time in the morning, then simply roll it before bed and take out the rollers in the morning. This will give your hair even longer lasting volume!

The rollers I use are pretty simple and require no heat. It is perfect for us girls who is on the go. I apply a bit of hair spray and leave it on for a while. I tease the roots of my hair to get my volume to last longer throughout the day.

BEAUTY HACK #5: Do you feel like your nail polish takes FOREVER to dry?? Well, dunking your nails into ice cold water will help dry your nails in an instant!

BEAUTY HACK #6: Want to apply eyeliner but it takes you forever to get that perfect line? Using a pencil liner can help you minimize that. Simply line your eye with the liner and smudge out the outer corner of your eye outward with a smudge brush or even a Q-tip. You will get the perfect cat eye every time!Remember, do one eye at a time; that way your liner is creamy and movable on the skin.

I love the NYX two timer liner. In addition to the pencil liner it also has a fine tip liquid liner too and that works wonders too! You can do a lot with this product.

BEAUTY HACK #7: Having trouble finding that perfect nude lip color? Simply mix your foundation color with a bit of pink or coral eye shadow along with some vasiline or your favorite chapstick and you will have a nude lip!

The foundation I used for this was Makeup Forever in N153. I love this foundation it is my perfect shade when it is summer. And I am in LA so it is always sunny out here 🙂 I would recommend this foundation line to everyone because it has so many different colors that you can choose from!

BEAUTY HACK #8: Feel like your hair accessories aren’t so fun and glamorous? Dress up your hair do by adding earrings or even jewelry!
